Who wouldn’t love a home filled with lush green plants, they add beauty and freshness to your indoor space. Interior plant decoration provides a pleasant and tranquil environment where you can work, relax and live, along with a number of health benefits that accompany the aesthetically pleasing arrangements. As we near summers, we will be spending a major part of the day indoors and therefore plants become a necessity.
But before you go plant shopping and start filling your home and rooms with plants, it is important to understand the needs of the plant, how large it will grow, and whether the environment in your house is fit for them. Different plants have different requirements in term of water sunlight and air, and different rooms in your house benefit from different types of plants. Below mentioned are some ideas of the type of plants you can choose for each room:
Living room
The living room of every house is usually the busiest and will have a higher count of people through the day. More often than not this is the most spacious room, therefore we suggest you choose potted plants that are large and place them on the floor rather than on the table. Kentia or Areca palm are best suited as they stand tall when kept at ground level, work well in partial to bright sunlight and enjoy well drained soil. If you want to decorate a shelf or cabinet, you might want to opt for an English Ivy. It looks amazing as it trails down.
Bedroom
Your bedroom is your sanctuary, a place you can rest after a long day. Thus we suggest plants that are air purifiers and promote good sleep. It is a known fact that plants give out oxygen in the day and carbon dioxide in the night, but this theory is not applicable to all plants. There are plants that give out oxygen in the night. This will help improve the air quality and ensure you sleep well through the night. A longtime favourite with house plant enthusiasts, Peace Lily is one of the best indoor plant for cleaning air. This plant will acclimate to a variety of indoor environment and when in full bloom its beautiful white flower will lend a serene peaceful feel to your room. Aloe Vera, and snake plant are also great air purifiers. While Aloe Vera can be placed on a table top, snake plants can be place in stands on the floor.
Dining Room
Another busy and bustling place, the dining room is where we gather for good time and organize meals with family and friends. For the dining table a table top plant like the Golden Pathos would be a good idea. They require full to partial sunlight. For floor display Philodendron work well.
Bathroom
Bathrooms deserve to be decorated with lush greenery just like every other room in the house – but it can be tricky to find a plant that thrives here. Low light, high humidity, and warm temperatures mean only certain houseplants will flourish. Lucky bamboos work well in the bathroom as they need very little light to grow. It doesn’t even need any soil – simply pop the stalk into a container filled with pebbles and water. Change the water every two to four weeks. Boston fern is another plants suited for the bathroom. This fern with frilly leaves and long, hanging fronds grows best when placed on a window sill or in a position which receives indirect sunlight.
Kitchen
Generally, kitchens have good ventilation with large windows that provide plenty of light and fresh air. However, it can also be a little difficult place for delicate plants because of the fumes, humidity and heat generation by the stove or oven and grease. Herbs work best in the kitchen as not only do they add to the décor but are also used for cooking. You can display plants like basil, rosemary, parsley and various other herbs. You can also plant scented geraniums, begonia and impatiens to enjoy the beautiful flowers.
Remember, if you are a first timer or not confident of you plant care skill, a succulent or cactus is the best way to get started. They require very little care, minimal water, and grow slowly so you don’t need to worry about replanting too soon.
